Ballestrini's Newletter

May 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wow! Where did the year go? School is almost out and summer is almost here! The children are already buzzing about all the summer field trips planned.

This months curriculum with focus on traveling. Traveling encompasses daily jaunts across town as well as long hikes during which an actual compass is needed! Traveling offers children and adults a wide variety of opportunities and possibilities that would not be available if we all stayed in one familiar place. Children are exposed to cultures, communities, and scenes while traveling. There are many ways to travel and many places to travel to. Children must be open to the world and the variety of people in it before they can truly know themselves and their own communities. It is this openness that will be developed and respected through an investigation into traveling.

Hot summer days are ahead of us and if you would like to donate a box of ice pops the children would love them. it would be an extra treat on a hot and sunny day.

During the summer we will be running the sprinklers for the children to cool down. Please be sure to send your child either wearing or with a swimsuit, and with a towel. These will go home daily for laundering. Water shoes are also a great summer investments for beach and sprinkler use. We recomment that you apply a long lasting waterproof sunscreen prior to the start of your child's day. It is the responsibility of the parent to appy sunscreen in the morning prior to dropping your child off at Ballestrini's. we will re-apply sunscreen in the afternoon. A topical permission form must be in place before any child can appy sunscreen or have it on site. Children may not share sunscreen products. The child's name must be on the product and it must be stored in the designated area.
